Battery rebates for Melbourne homes
The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program applies in every Victorian postcode. From 1 May 2026 it provides the full incentive on the first 14 kWh of usable battery capacity — as a guide, around $3,300 off a typical 10 kWh battery, applied as a discount on your install invoice rather than claimed back later.
Victoria’s state-based interest-free battery loan (Solar Homes) closed to new applications in 2025, so the federal program is now the main incentive for batteries in Melbourne. Solar Victoria does still offer a separate rebate of up to $1,400 for solar panels, subject to an income test — worth knowing if you are adding panels at the same time.
The federal incentive is scheduled to step down from 1 January 2027, so there is value in acting while the current rate applies. Eligibility and amounts change over time and depend on your system; Sunbridge confirms what currently applies to your address and handles the paperwork. See our battery rebate guidance for more.
