Rebates

Battery rebates for Brisbane homes

The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program applies in every Queensland postcode. From 1 May 2026 it pays a tiered rate worth roughly $250–270 per usable kWh on the first 14 kWh — as a guide, around $2,500–$2,700 off a typical 10 kWh battery, applied as a discount on your install invoice rather than claimed back later.

Queensland’s state Battery Booster rebate closed to new applications when the federal program launched in 2025, so the federal incentive is now the active battery rebate in Brisbane. As a worked example, a typical 10 kWh battery installed for around $8,000–$10,000 comes down to roughly $5,500–$7,500 after the current federal discount.

Amounts and eligibility change over time and depend on your system and household. Sunbridge confirms what currently applies to your address and handles the rebate paperwork as part of your quote. See our battery rebate guidance for more detail.

Local knowledge

Know your Brisbane grid

The rules that shape a good install here — networks, export limits and tariffs as they stand in 2026.

Energex rules: backstop and dynamic exports

All of South East Queensland is on the Energex network. New and replacement solar must be remotely curtailable under the emergency backstop mechanism, and Energex’s Dynamic Connections option lets homes export up to 10 kW per phase when the network has capacity, instead of the standard static limit. We handle the connection paperwork and configure compliant hardware as part of every install.

Storm season is the backup story

SEQ storm season runs roughly September to February — hail, damaging winds and outages included; recent storms have cut power to over 160,000 properties at once. A battery with backup keeps your essential circuits (or the whole home, depending on the system) running while the grid is down.

No regulated feed-in tariff in SEQ

South East Queensland has no mandated minimum feed-in rate — retailers set their own, typically in the 4–13 c/kWh range, and many plans cap the headline rate at the first 5–14 kWh exported per day. Storing your surplus beats exporting it under those rules.

The best solar yield of our four metros

Brisbane’s sunshine delivers the strongest generation of the cities we serve — which means more midday surplus to store, and more value from a correctly sized battery when the aircon runs into the evening.

Why a battery here

Why a home battery makes sense in Brisbane

Brisbane’s subtropical climate brings strong year-round solar generation and hot, humid summers that push air-conditioning demand well into the evening — exactly when stored battery energy is most valuable. Storing your own solar avoids buying expensive grid power at peak times.

Brisbane’s storm season also brings the risk of power outages, so a battery with backup helps keep essential circuits — or the whole home — running when the grid goes down. Combined with high feed-in tariffs falling over recent years, self-consuming your solar through a battery increasingly makes better financial sense than exporting it.

How much is the battery rebate in Brisbane?

The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program is the active battery rebate in Queensland — as a guide, around $2,500–$2,700 off a typical 10 kWh battery at the current tiered rate, applied as a discount on your invoice. Queensland’s state Battery Booster has closed to new applications. Sunbridge confirms what currently applies to your address.

Is the Queensland Battery Booster still available?

No. The Queensland Battery Booster rebate closed to new applications when the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program launched in 2025. The federal program now provides the battery incentive.
